Delectably Unique Rattlesnake Meat Recipes

 https://tastessence.com/rattlesnake-meat

Wondering how to cook rattlesnake meat at home? Well, here are some recipes on how to cook it that might help you.

Rattlesnakes are one of the most venomous snakes in the world and are identified by the rings at the tip of their tail, called a rattle. They make a rattling sound with it as a warning to their predators. Rattlesnake meat has been a delicacy in some parts of North America for a long time. It is also used as a popular medicinal remedy.

The meat is pretty tough, but it can be consumed if cooked, properly. People eat it as a part of various dishes. Even canned rattlesnake meat is a favorite among people. In Texas where rattlesnake meat became popular in the 1950s, people consumed it as a barbecue or as a main ingredient in chili.

Recipe 1

The meat should be cut into thin slices, using a sharp knife. Beat the slices with a tenderizer for a few minutes. Place these in a baking tray and season them with salt. Now, fill the tray halfway with water, before covering it with a lid. Preheat the oven to 350 °F. Place the baking tray in it and bake the meat for about 60 minutes. Once done, remove the lid and let it cook for another 10 minutes. Serve the meat with some tortilla chips and salsa, on the side.

Telera Rolls

 https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/telera-rolls-recipe

The link above will lead you to a recipe on how to bake these tasty rolls used to making sandwiches.  They might even be excellent hamburger bun substitutes.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups (340g) water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon lard, shortening, or butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons (9g) salt (optional)
  • 4 to 4 1/2 cups (480g to 540g) all purpose flour*
  • *if substituting wheat with gluten free flour, you will need to add guar gum and baking powder to the mixture.  All purpose tapioca flour is generally used as a substitute in making gluten free bread.  A mixture of tapioca and rice flours is also quite commonly used.  Add a tablespoon of guar gum to substitute for the missing gluten found naturally in wheat.
  • Glaze
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or the pan of your bread machine set on the dough cycle, combine the yeast, water, honey, melted fat, salt, and 4 cups of the flour. Mix until a soft dough forms.

  2. Check the doughs consistency; if the dough sticks to your finger when you touch it lightly, add 1/4 cup of the additional flour and mix for another minute. Check the dough again, adding the remaining 1/4 cup of flour only if you need it; the dough should be soft, but not sticky.

  3. Knead for 6 to 8 minutes at medium speed in a stand mixer, or 10 minutes by hand, until it's smooth and bouncy.

  4. Cover the bowl and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled, or let the bread machine complete its cycle.

  5. Once the dough has risen, deflate it and divide into 10 pieces, roll into balls, and cover the pieces.

  6. Let them rest for 5 minutes before shaping the rolls into a football shape, tapering toward the edges; the rolls should be 5 1/2" long and 2" around at the center.

  7. Place the rolls onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet and cover with greased plastic. Allow the rolls to rise while turning the oven on and preheating to 400°F

  8. When the rolls are almost doubled in size, brush the tops and sides with egg wash. Using a greased knife, slash the rolls twice parallel to each other. Press down firmly with each slice.

  9. Bake for 20 to 22 minutes, until golden brown and the centers read 190°F on a digital thermometer. Remove from the oven and cool completely before slicing.

It's Pumpkin Time!

How many of you watched The Addams Family on TV as reruns?  You probably recognize "Morticia Addams" Carolyn Jones.  This is one of her last pictures taken in the 1980s before she passed away from cancer.  She looks great in this picture!  And just why did I post this pic?  It seems that there is a shortage of pumpkins in parts of the USA due to weather conditions this year.  I'm doing a public service here by giving you a heads up this Halloween.  If you are just about to carve your pumpkin for the night, if you particularly like roasted pumpkin seeds or would like to save your seeds to grow some pumpkins for next year, remember to pull them out and preserve them by drying them out in the sun if you can.  You just might get a nice treat for yourself next year!  And make sure you don't let good pumpkins go to waste this November.  You can cook them to make fillings for pumpkin pies or bake other goodies such as pumpkin bread or cookies.

Now where did some of the funny pictures posted on the sister blogs go?

MUH MUH MY!  MUH MUH MY!  They're speechless!  Now where are the pics?

Now these are grade A pumpkins!  Oh wait, they were grown around 2014...

MUH MUH MY!  MUH MUH MY!  Is that Chicken Hammer going after Pookie Toot Toot?

How To Fix A Flat Tire In An Emergency

It's that time of year again! Kids are going back to school. Let's say you have a kid going off to college for the first time away from home. Your kid has a new car without a spare tire. What do you do to protect your kid? Here is one option of many that you can have to protect your kid: Buy a tire repair kit for emergency use. The repair kit consists of a tire rasp, tire plug insertion tool, plugs and rubber cement.

The above pictures are examples of tire plug repair kits. One of them comes with a razor to trim the plug after repairing the puncture. The 12 volt portable air compressor shown is a Masterflow compressor with a built in tire pressure gauge. You will need a blade screwdriver and pliers to remove the puncturing object. If the car was not equipped with a jack, lug wrench and spare tire, you can purchase a jack, lug wrench and emergency tire repair plug kit from most auto parts stores or you can purchase an OEM jack, lug wrench and compact spare tire or OEM rim and TPMS Sensor/sensor valve stem from your local car dealer parts department.

On a 2008 & later car and truck, you will see either a metal stem on the rim or an ordinary looking rubber stem with a TPMS sensor attached inside onto the stem. On a 2008 and later model car equipped with the snap in rubber TPMS stems, a tire shop can replace the rubber stem with a metal TPMS stem like the one pictured here. The metal stem shown here is the type made to replace rubber TPMS Valve stems. The TPMS units are pricey if damaged, usually costing at least $50.00 for an aftermarket replacement that needs to be programmed to match the car's TPMS factory receiver to several hundred dollars for an OEM unit. Repair chemicals such as Fix A Flat can damage a unit as well. If you don't have some kind of spare tire such as a compact spare pictured here or a full size tire, you will probably need to do an emergency plug repair. To repair the leak, make sure you set the parking brake and put the automatic transmission into Park, or the manual transmission into either reverse or first gear. Find the jack point on the car. Slightly loosen the lug nuts before jacking the wheel up. Jack the car up and remove the wheel. Find the leak and pull the puncturing object out. Use the tire rasp to ream the hole. Coat the plug insertion tool with rubber cement and lubricate the hole. Pull the insertion tool out, insert the plug material into the tool eyelet and lubricate the plug with rubber cement. Push the plug straight into the hole, inserting at least 2/3 of the plug into the hole. Pull the tool out without twisting it. Check for leaks. If it leaks, try again with another plug, repeating the processes after removing the defective plug. If the plug successfully seals the leak, cut off the excess material, leaving at least 1/4 inch of the plug material behind. Do not cut the plug flush with the tread. Doing so will cause it to leak. Inflate the tire at least to the minimum pressure per car maker or to the maximum pressure on the tire sidewall. Remount the tire, using a star pattern to tighten the lug nuts. Lower the wheel and finish tightening the nuts. IMPORTANT: A plug repair is temporary. The tire needs to be patched inside to be safe.
